Scientists of the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) underlined the need for introducing Nano Technology in Aquaculture to save farmers from losses.
Researchers, farmers and experts in Nano technology participated in the workshop-cum-interactive session on ‘Application of Nano Technology in Aquaculture’ here on Friday.
Giving a power point presentation on the advantages of nano technology and its transfer, CIFA scientists Dr. Swain and B.S. Das from Bhubaneswar, said that Nano technology was existing from decades and Tippu Sultan’s sword was designed with the same principle and the medicine for cancer was discovered with Nano technology, which gave good results.
ICAR former Board Member M.V.S. Nagi Reddy, who attended the workshop, said that farmers should have more acquaintance with researchers so that latest technologies would be used in aquaculture.
“A farmer will encourage the new technology which is economically viable. At this juncture, aqua farmers are waiting for the equipment and material, which is profitable. Government should take up research on Nano technology identification in aquaculture and save the farmers,” Mr. Nagi Reddy said.
He appealed to the government to set up aquaculture research centre in 100 acres at Kolleru area, which can be used for taking up research works on fish and shrimp culture. Nano technology can be applied for reducing investment cost aquaculture, the former ICAR Board Member said.
Senior scientists Dr. Giri and Dr. Ranga Chary from Regional Research Centre, CIFA, Vijayawada, aqua farmers from all over AP participated.
