In an innovative initiative, the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) on Thursday launched Naipunya Radham (Skills on Wheels) to create awareness on digital literacy among youth and women, especially in the rural pockets of the State.

APSSDC Chairman Challa Madhusudhan Reddy, along with the Managing Director and the CEO of the Corporation Arja Srikanth and head of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) South Region Raman Gujral launched the vehicle at the Corporation office in Tadepalli.

Demonstrating use of the computers and other facilities equipped in the vehicles, the officials held a video conference with students of SRR and CVR Government Degree College.

Digital literacy

Chairman Madhusudhan Reddy said the objective was to provide digital literacy to students, unemployed youth and women in rural areas. The target groups would be trained in use of a computer and educated on operating the system, preparation of a resume, e-mailing skills and given career guidance.

The new facility would also teach members of self-help groups baking skills and how to handle financial transactions in online mode.

‘Skill Connect’ drive

Mr. Srikanth said the novel move was aimed at empowering the rural youth. He said the ‘radham’ was jointly sponsored by the HP Global Organisation and APSSDC and the EDII was the training partner. He said as part of the Corporation’s ‘Skill Connect’ drive, interviews would be conducted in online mode for unemployed youth.

In the first phase, the Corporation proposes to impart training through the new mode to the youth in six districts — Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Anantapur and Kurnool. The ‘radham’ would also be utilised for community programmes such as educating the rural population on the government’s “Nava Ratnalu’ programme and other development schemes being implemented by the State.
