The PVP institutions had created more jobs than another institution in Vijayawada in “ the past hundred years”, YSR Congress Party Vijayawada parliamentary constituency candidate Prasad V. Potluri claimed on Monday.

Addressing media at the party State office here for the first time after his name was announced, Mr. Prasad said he got more than 400 persons from Vijayawada jobs all over the world. An engineering college established by him in 2000 created more than 1,000 jobs and a shopping mall he completed in 2014 at a cost of ₹150 crore created 700 jobs. All he took when he left the city was ₹1 lakh.

He gave these statistics answering a question by a reporter on his absence in the past four years. Saying his deeds spoke louder than words, Mr. Prasad said he developed these institutions from wherever he was — Vijayawada, Hyderabad or New York.

Saying he did his schooling in the NSM Public School, Intermediate in Andhra Loyola and Engineering in the Koneru Lakshmaiah College, Mr. Prasad said inclusive and comprehensive development of Vijayawada was his agenda. Nothing was more important for the people than the “future of their children”. The city had “extraordinary academic infrastructure” but what was needed was the “last mile connectivity and global opportunities”. Creation of entertainment infrastructure and putting the capital city on the map of India were needed, he said.

Asked to comment on the allegations made by sitting MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) that he was involved in “international scams”, Mr. Prasad evaded a direct answer quoting former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Greek philosopher Plato. Asked if any charge-sheets or cases were pending against him, Mr. Prasad said there were none. He said he was the one and only person in the country who approached the Supreme Court for a time-bound CBI inquiry into the allegations made by several detractors against him. “Investigations have been done and I have been given a clean chit.” Party Assembly candidates Malladi Vishnu, Vellampalli Srinivas, Kokkiligadda Rakshananidhi, Boppana Bhava Kumar and former Mayors M Ratna Bindu and T Sakuntala were present .
