Minister promises playground for every primary school

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resources Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the State government was keen on promoting sports culture and efforts were on to spruce up a playground at every primary school in the State.

Speaking at the inauguration of the South Zone Inter-University Volleyball Tournament for men at Siddhartha Arts and Sciences College here, he said that bifurcation had severely affected the prospects of the new State. “We need to start from the scratch and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is leaving no stone unturned to develop Andhra Pradesh as a model State. We are also coming up with a new sports policy.”

Mr. Rao said the modern educational system was producing more machines than humans owing to much emphasis on academics. “Education alone will not fetch us success. We need to have a sound mind in a sound body and sports play a crucial role,” the Minister said.

Minister for Irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao recollected his student days at Siddhartha Arts and Sciences College in the late seventies and appreciated the college management for providing education opportunities for all section of the society including SCs, STs and Minorities.

He said the State would get Olympic-standard sports facilities as the State government was pitching in for hosting National Games.

Krishna University Vice-Chancellor V. Venkaiah said that the new varsity was offering best of education including research facilities along with thrust for development in sports and games. “We have land allotted at Rudravaram and soon we will have our buildings,” he added.

Earlier, the teams took out an impressive march past amidst bursting of crackers and soaring balloons.

Siddhartha Academy president Nalluri Venkateswarlu, TDP leader Varla Ramaiah, MLC B. Narasimha Rao, Dronacharya in volleyball A. Ramana Rao and industrialist Chukkapalli Kusalava were present.
