The major earthquake that rocked Nepal on Tuesday caused mild tremors across the East Coast of Andhra Pradesh.

People from Srikakulam to Krishna district ran onto the roads as the earth shook for a brief while shortly after the noon.

Panic prevailed across the region as the news of multiple aftershocks trickled in from the Himalayan Kingdom.

Tremors were felt in many parts of the State after the 7.4 magnitude temblor occurred in Nepal and its surrounding hilly areas. People in parts of Krishna, East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts got a feel of the ground shaking below their feet.

There were no reports of any damage but the tremors were strong enough to make people run for cover.

Tremors were experienced on MG Road and at Governorpet, Bhavanipuram, Gollapudi and some other parts of Vijayawada city and a few other areas in Krishna district. Hordes of people were seen on the arterial MG Road in Vijayawada city as they rushed out in panic and stayed there for sometime in anticipation of more after shocks.

News of tremors came from Akiveedu and Narsapuram in West Godavari, Kakinada, Rajahmundry and Amalapuram in East Godavari district and Madhavadhara and Pothinamallayyapalem in Visakhapatnam.

Officials were on the alert and a few of them visited the areas where the tremors were felt.

But they heaved a sigh of relief as the tremors did not inflict any significant damage.
