Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor I.V. Rao on Wednesday said every individual must acquire fundamental knowledge of science.

Addressing a meeting organised in connection with inauguration of Vasavya Medical and Health exhibition, a permanent feature, thrown open to the public on the premises of Vasavya Nursing Home near Benz Circle, Dr. Rao said the exhibition would be of immense use to the general public visiting the clinic as it shared important information on common ailments in a simple language.

Healthy lifestyle

He said keeping diseases at bay was not enough to lead a healthy life. Happiness was possible only when one learnt the art of stress management. Good eating habits, distance from vices, a balanced diet, and a physical exercise were key to healthy lifestyle.

Citing the case of polio, Dr. Rao said constant effort with commitment to drive away the ailment had finally borne fruits and polio cases had become a thing of the past. Similarly, the authorities concerned must take up aggressive health drives to prevent contagious diseases by means of vaccination, he suggested.

Pointing to the rapid advancements in the field of science and technology, he said people must make the best of it and keep themselves away from the banes of epidemics and other ailments.

Referring to age-old social evils like superstition and blind beliefs, especially in the rural pockets, he said promotion of science and scientific temper was the only answer to it.

G. Samaram said barring on Sundays, the exhibition would remain open to the public on all other days from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. He said patients visiting the clinic must make use of the opportunity and must visit the hall.

Gynaecologist Maru, G. Rashmi, Vijayam, and others were present.
