“MDOs’ role crucial in creating Swachch villages”

January 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:11 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Regional-level officials must play active role in transforming the villages in Krishna district into ‘Swachch’ (clean) villages, said Collector A. Babu on Saturday.

Addressing Revenue Divisional Officers, tahsildars, mandal development officers (MDOs) and mandal coordinators during a video conference at his camp office, Mr. Babu said that MDOs had a vital role to play in grooming villages into ‘smart’ villages. Mr. Babu said that success of the string of welfare programmes launched by the State government could be assured by their effective implementation by officials at various levels. The officials could identify and name two active members who would be trained at district-level to ensure systematic implementation of the various programmes, he said.

The officials must study various aspects of the welfare programmes and take them to the beneficiaries at the grassroots level, he said, adding that in the next three months, individual toilets would be built for every household. Funds for the purpose had been released, he informed.

The Collector wanted the officials to maintain transparency in spending the funds.

Joint Collector J. Murali and a host of other officials were present.
