Master plan’s golf course may need 100 acres

The sports fraternity is excited by the inclusion of a golf course in the master plan for the new capital city Amaravathi.

Former Andhra Pradesh Golf Association secretary Joseph Dawson said an 18-hole course would need 100 acres to be fully up to international standards. He said the course will have par 3 (four holes), par 4 (10 holes) and par 5 (four holes) distances. “We would need around 100 professionals for the smooth functioning of such a course.” Mr. Dawson, who is presently the Telangana Golf Association secretary, said a well-appointed golf course would have a club house with provision for catering, change rooms and store rooms for paraphernalia associated with the sport.

“However, the biggest task would be maintaining the greenery and keeping the environs clean. The fairways (the distance from the tee-off point to the hole) should be in condition. Trees would have to be nurtured. We can also make provisions for floodlights.”
