Manda Krishna to take up ‘Thirugubaatu yatra'

March 21, 2012 02:10 pm | Updated 02:10 pm IST - KADAPA:

MRPS president Manda Krishna Madiga announced here on Tuesday that he would spearhead a ‘Madiga Thirugubaatu yatra' from Piler, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy's constituency, on April 5 demanding for the categorisation of Scheduled Castes.

Mr. Manda Krishna, who visited the MRPS relay hunger strike camp in front of the Kadapa Collectorate, said that the MPRS would lay siege on Hyderabad at the end of the yatra. Former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had promised classification of SCs in the Congress manifestos for the 2004 and 2009 general elections, but Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was apathetic towards the Madiga community, he alleged.

‘No votes for Congress'

Alleging that the Congress' stand on the classification issue was dubious, Mr. Manda Krishna said that the MRPS viewed Congress as its rival and appealed to the people of the community to not vote for the ruling party in any elections including the ensuing by-election.

The MRPS leader rapped Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu for not pressing on the demand for classification of SCs in the ongoing Assembly session. The TDP would not get votes of Madigas until it sincerely raised its voice in support of the classification, he said.

Asked if MRPS would alternatively support the regional parties, he said that YSR Congress Party, CPI and CPI (M) too would have to forego the votes of the Madiga community if they did not support their cause.

Mr. Manda Krishna announced the cancellation of plans for a national highway blockade on March 28 and laying siege of Collectorates on March 30.
