The Satyanarayana Puram police arrested a 25-year-old man, who was allegedly involved in several thefts at ATM centres and online fraud in the city on Wednesday.
In a release, police stated that Perepi Madhusudan, who pursued CA course in Chennai, addicted to the online rummy game and lost about ₹2 lakh.
After completing the course he came to his hometown Nellore and mortgaged family members’ gold ornaments without their knowledge and continued to play online rummy expecting high returns, police said.
He later moved to his cousin’s room in Ajit Singh Nagar in the city and started working as an online food delivery executive. Meanwhile, he resorted to theft at ATM centres by duping vulnerable users like senior citizens and technologically challenged persons.
Police said that he was caught by three ATM users once for withdrawing ₹27,000 in the guise of helping them and was sentenced to jail term. Out on bail, he continued to prowl at ATM centres and captured the details of the card like ATM card number, CVV, valid through date and others of his victims while helping them. and transferred the amount to his online rummy account later. He was booked in seven different cases.
