In his anxiety to prevent the fender of his car from getting dented a young man had a brush with death. Twenty-four-year-old Pawan Kumar wedged his leg between the car and the wall and got his knee and thigh bone crushed. It was the same leg which was operated upon earlier for vascular repair. Fortunately for him the blood vessel that was repaired did not rupture.
An MRI scan at the M.J. Naidu Super Speciality Hospital revealed multiple bone pieces in the thigh bone of Kumar who had earlier undergone vascular repair surgery.
He was lucky because the femoral artery on which he had an operation earlier did not rupture. Special care was taken to ensure that the femoral artery was not ruptured again.
Orthopaedic Surgeon M.J. Naidu said that a rupture of the artery, either during the accident or the operation would have had fatal consequences.
Giving background of the case, Dr. Naidu said that Pawan Kumar had injured his leg in an accident earlier. A femoral artery repair was performed and instead of being doubly careful he injured it again. It would take six weeks for the patient to resume his daily activities normally.
