Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadde Anuradha on Tuesday praised the Child Care Institutions (CCIs) for providing shelter for thousands of orphan, special and the needy children, and treating them with humanity.

She appealed to the children to make use of the government welfare schemes, achieve great positions and build a strong nation.

Ms. Anuradha was speaking at the International Child Rights Day celebrations jointly organised by the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department here.

Quality education

She praised the caretakers of the CCIs and the Anganwadi teachers and workers for providing nutritious food and quality education.

Students of Anganwadi centres, inmates of the Nirmal Sishu Bhavan, the Care and Share, the SKCV and other organisations performed cultural shows to mark the celebrations. The Child Rights Advocacy Foundation (CRAF) and the World Vision India also participated.

Additional DCP Sk. Nawab Jaan appealed to the parents to take care of their children well and spend some time with them.

WD&CW district Project Director K. Krishna Kumari asked the children to be aware of their rights. Expressing concern over increasing abuse cases, she appealed to the children to report to the officials concerned if any person misbehaved with them.

District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Ch. Vijay Kumar said the WD&CW officials had organised essay writing, elocution and drawing competitions and games and sports for children in various CCIs.

Later, prizes were distributed.

Assistant Commissioner of Labour D. Anjaneya Reddy, District Probation Officer K. Bhaskar, CRAF programme manager P. Francis Thambi and others participated.
