Leprosy, AIDS centre to continue

The Health Department Principal Chief Secretary Ratna Kishore has assured the health personnel and the people that the Leprosy and AIDS District Centre will continue to function from the City.

The Leprosy and AIDS District Centre will be established on the premises of the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada in view of the administrative and patient convenience, the CPI Member of Legislative Council Jelli Wilson was told by the Health Principal Chief Secretary.

The MLC in a release said that reacting to a letter submitted to him in Hyderabad, the health official said that only for financial reasons the centre should not be shifted to Machilipatnam and that the travel convenience of other patients from all parts of the district also should be taken into account.

The district Collector S.A.M. Rizvi and Government General Hospital Superintendent Paladugu Bhaskar also suggested establishment of the centre in the GGH in Vijayawada.
