Lagadapati's remarks draw flak

March 27, 2012 01:26 pm | Updated 01:26 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The YSR Congress Party leaders are up in arms against Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal for asking how the party leader and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would be able to provide “corruption-free rule” once his party comes to power. The first to fire a salvo at Mr. Rajagopal was YSR Congress MLC Gattu Ramachandra Rao. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday Mr. Ramachandra Rao said Mr. Rajagopal had no moral right to make such remarks against Mr Jagan. The way Mr. Rajagopal acquired assets worth Rs. 2,000 crore was known to all, Mr. Ramachandra Rao said.

Former MLA and YSR Congress city convenor Jaleel Khan addressing a press conference here on Monday flashed copies of a national weekly with an article on seven 5 mega watts solar power plants in Jaisalmer that were certified as power producing though they were nowhere near completion. The magazine said the power plants belonged to Mr. Rajagopal.

Mr. Khan said if Mr. Rajagopal was such a clean person he should prove it by inviting the CBI to investigate his assets. Ironically, Mr. Rajagopal acquired all the properties with the help of his father-in-law Parvathaneni Upendra and Mr Jagan's father and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, Mr Khan said and alleged that the MP was involved in more scams than Gali Janardhana Reddy.

He alleged that Mr Rajagopal was involved in the encroachment of 100 acres of Wakf Board land in Hyderabad and he was also siphoning off money from the public through the Global Gandhi Trust.

Supporting Mr. Rajagopal Krishna district Congress Committee president Naraharasetti Narasimha Rao and city Congress president Pyla Sominaidu said the MP acquired the assets through hard work. An engineer by qualification Mr. Rajagopal invested his family wealth intelligently. The Congress leaders demanded Mr. Ramachandra Rao to “withdraw” his statements and tender a public apology to the MP.
