The one and a half years long wait for proper road connectivity for people of Krishnalanka, particularly those living in the municipal divisions 23 and 24, is going to end in another month if the claims of officials concerned are to be believed.
Since May last year, people in the Krishnalanka area have been facing troubles of connectivity as all the approach roads between the NH and feeder road were closed to pave the way for expansion of the NH, part of Kankadurga Flyover project. Since then motorists are being forced to travel to either end of the two-kilometre long stretch to access the NH and rest of the city while pedestrians continued to jump over the fences. The trouble for pedestrians was so much that the R&B authorities created unauthorised stairs from the feeder road to elevated NH.
The works of the only vehicle underpass (subway) beneath the NH connecting Krishnalanka feeder road directly to M.G. Road via the bridge over Bandar Canal began long ago, but is still incomplete. Despite demand from the locals for at least three subways, the authorities are bound to their initial plan of the single subway.
“In view of Dasara festival rush, the works of the subway were halted temporarily. Works will resume and the three important aspects — laying of slip road, construction of retaining wall and allowing traffic on the four-lane NH, and allowing traffic through the underpass — will be achieved by beginning of the next month,” R&B Superintending Engineer (Quality Control) and in-charge of the project G. John told The Hindu . “Also, the works of street lighting and road median are going on at a fast pace since the last 10 days,” he said.
On the other hand, completion of the subway work needs only minor traffic diversion. “Since the elevated four-lane road will be totally used there will be no major traffic issues. Motorcycles can be allowed from Bandar Road to NH via the bridge,” he said.
