Krishna SP kicks off green drive

‘Conservation of saplings responsibility of personnel’

Krishna district Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu on Wednesday said the department aimed at planting more than 30,000 saplings at all the police stations, government offices, and educational institutions during this month.

Mr. Ravindranath formally launched the green drive, planting a few saplings on the campus of DMS SVH Engineering College and Hindu Group of colleges here.

He a detailed plan had been chalked out to prepare the personnel to achieve the target.

Consultations were being held with government departments and educational institutions to get their consent to plant the saplings.

“Monsoon is the season that supports the survival of the saplings. We have committed to contribute something to improve the green cover using the available space for planting the saplings with the support of civil society groups and the students,” said Mr. Ravindranth.

Wide participation

Bandar Revenue Divisional Officer Udaya Bhaskar, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mehaboob Basha, teachers and students joined the green initiative.

Mr. Ravindranath Babu told The Hindu that all the saplings were being supplied by the Forest Department free of cost. Personnel on the ground would be asked to conserve the ones planted during the drive.

“A majority of the nearly 30,000 saplings that were planted last year are surviving and are under the care of police personnel, including home guards and the staff of the government offices and managements of educational institutions,” he added.
