Environment conservation should be the essence of our life, said actress and animal rights activist Akkineni Amala here on Friday.

She was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a special outlet set up by the city-based M&M showroom to sell WWF T-shirts which have images of endangered animals and slogans in support of wildlife conservation.

“We talk incessantly of development, employment and growth mode; but somewhere along the line, we are forgetting the essence of life — conservation of environment,” she reiterated laying emphasis on “sustainable development prevalent in the West.”

In an interactive session that followed with the local media persons, she contradicted with a few reporters who cited what they called the increasing menace of stray dogs leading to incidents of a few recent deaths as well.

“Most of these incidents occurred when children went out of their homes to defecate in the open. If we keep our streets clean, dogs will not come there,” she insisted reminding of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The animal rights activist vehemently opposed killing of dogs saying that might aggravate the problem as the number would multiply. “Sterilisation is the only solution,” she maintained.

WWF-lndia’s conservation efforts seek to secure long term survival of wildlife and their habitats with the mission to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.

\sWWF Andhra Pradesh chairperson Farida, M&M showroom managing director Dinesh, former chairman of CII, Vijayawada zone V.V.M. Krishna and others were present.
