Department of Archaeology and Museums in coordination with the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) is organising Kalamkari exhibition from November 26 to 30 at Victoria Jubilee Museum here.

Eighty Kalamkari artisans from Srikalahasti in Chittoor and Pedana in Krishna district will be participating in the expo.

The main objective of organising the expo was to develop a network of Kalamkari artisans from different parts of the State with the purpose of motivating them, towards the preservation of traditional arts and craft forms, said IGRMS Assistant Keeper P. Sankara Rao.

Artisans from Pedana were experts in making cloth made decorative items like wall hangings, table clothes, door curtains, lamp shades and other interior decorative items while those from Srikalahasti make traditional paintings relating to mythological stories, Mr. Rao said.

“We are also organising a sale of products made by these craftsmen. Our intension is to provide a platform for inter-artisans interaction and create an interest about traditional art forms and practices,” he said.

'Plans have been chalked out to organise cultural programmes with the help of Gantasala Kalakshetram. The expo will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
