Junior Inter girl ‘jumps off’ college building in Pedana

January 05, 2019 01:04 am | Updated 01:04 am IST - PEDANA (KRISHNA)

An Intermediate first year girl student on Friday allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from the terrace of a private college here. The apparent reason for the extreme step by the 16-year-old girl is not known.

The teaching staff and locals rushed to the spot and provided her first aid in a local hospital, from where she was shifted to the private hospital in Machilipatnam.

In a preliminary inquiry conducted by the revenue officials, the college director did not show the documents pertaining to the pending fee required to be paid by the girl in the wake of allegations of “pressure from the college management” regarding pending fee. Citing the statement given by the girl, Pedana Sub-Inspector Mr. Abhimanyu said the girl had slipped from the first floor terrace.

However, the terrace has at least three-foot parapet wall. The college management had no answer as to why she went to the terrace. The college director claimed that the girl might have slipped from the terrace while washing her hands during the lunch break.

Contrary to the management statements, it has been observed during the inquiry by Pedana Tahsildar M.V. Satyanarayana that the handwash facility was on the ground floor and the toilet facility was on the opposite direction of the spot from where the girl fell.

“The girl has been severely injured, but she is out of danger,” said Mr. Abhimanyu. People with suicidal tendencies can contact District Government Hospital on ph 94403 76333.
