This festive season, people of Vijayawada city have a pleasant surprise in store.

To add a zing to the festivities, they have the option to break into an overnight Dandiya raas or Garba with elan. “We are trying to familiarise the local crowd with the concept of Dandiya or Garba night, a tradition associated with States like Gujarat and Rajasthan,” said Suman Meena of Creative Soul, the event management firm organising a workshop on Dandiya.

After a demo on Saturday, the 21-day-long classes started at Jyothi Convention Centre near Benz Circle on Sunday.

The training sessions will be conducted from 10 a.m. till 9 p.m. every day, she informed.

In the northern States, Navaratri is the time to hit the dance floor, a fun way to dance away the night. Happy with the public response, Ms. Suman said people, young and middle aged, were enthusiastically coming forward to match their step to the Dandiya tunes.

For men also

Neha Jain, co-founder of Creative Soul, said Dandiya or Garba was not confined to women alone and men could share the joy too. She said those below 18 years of age would be given concession in the fee.

On September 20 and 30, special presentations would be made besides events like Gujarati sangeet by local artists of that State and an exhibition of Gujarati style clothing, ornaments, artefacts and paintings.

People interested to join the workshop can contact 9849468498, 9949275912.
