Jagan skips yoga day celebrations

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy skipped the International Yoga Day celebrations organised by the State government here on Friday. He was supposed to attend the event as chief guest. Medical and Health Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas (Nani) too did not turn up.

Mr. Jagan flew to Medigadda in Telangana to attend the inauguration of Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, which he opposed tooth and nail while he was the Opposition leader.

Endowments Minister Velampalli Srinivasa Rao, Vijayawada (Central) MLA Malladi Vishnu and others attended the event. The MLA, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, officials and other enthusiasts joined the Minister in various asanas on the occasion.

They performed yoga postures for an hour as the trainers gave instructions.

Mr. Rao administered a pledge to the participants that they will practise yoga to live life to its full potential.

he Minister and Mr. Vishnu said everyone should practise yoga for a complete and healthy life free from stress. Noting that yoga was our “valuable heritage”, they said it should become part of everyone’s life.

International Yoga Day is being celebrated all across the world on June 21 with various countries participating in these programmes. The idea was suggested by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on September 27, 2014. The previous government used to organise the celebrations in tune with International Yoga day.
