In view of the soaring temperature that has been forcing people to reschedule their important works and stay indoors to escape the searing heat, some of the staff members of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) put to use their ingenuity to extend comfort to people travelling by the public transport corporation.

Following an instruction by the Corporation’s Managing Director M. Malakondaiah, staff members of Governorpet-2 and Ibrahimpatnam bus depots got together and came up with an age-old ‘affordable’ solution-- they fixed cooling mats to the windows of all ordinary service buses.

Cash incentives

Impressed by their resourcefulness and the positive feedback from the passengers, Mr. Malakondaiah distributed cash incentives to those involved in the task. Those who received appreciation and rewards include Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) from Ibrahimpatnam depot P. Bhanu Prasad (₹1,000), electrician from Ibrahimpatnam depot D.V. Rao (₹5,000), coach builder N. Venkata Ramana from Ibrahimpatnam depot (₹1,000), trimmer B. Srinivasa Rao, also from Ibrahimpatnam depot (₹1,000), Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) B. Chandrasekhar from Governorpet-2 depot (₹1,000), coach builder N.M. Krishna from Governorpet depot (₹1,000) and leading hand V. K. Sudheer from Governorpet depot (₹1,000). Impressed by the move, Mr. Malakondaiah, encouraged the staff to think of more such measures to enhance the comfort level of people travelling by RTC buses.
