ISIS trying to woo youth through online sites

November 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Is the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which claimed responsibility for the recent Russian plane crash and the Paris attacks spreading its activities in AP? The answer appears to be yes, say intelligence sources.

ISIS is trying to recruit youth and spread its activities in many parts of the world. The radicals are posting their ideology and their activities along with some photographs online to attract teenagers. Many youth who have access to Internet are searching the websites and are going through the ISIS activities and eventually joining its ranks, said a police officer.

According to the Indians who were abducted and released by ISIS activists at Sirte in Libya a few months ago, the terrorists insisted them to follow Islamism and used to execute those who defied them.

“Before releasing us, the terrorists instructed us to follow Islamism after reaching our native places,” said an Indian. Police are keeping a vigil on visitors who are browsing ISIS sites repeatedly and are trying to trace their movements. Intelligence authorities are maintaining a vigil on those who are chatting over some social media sites on ISIS activities.

“The Jihadists are just publicising their activities to woo sympathisers through various social media sites. The teenagers do not have the intention to join ISIS but it slowly lured them into its trap ,” said a police officer.

The intelligence sleuths are maintaining surveillance at some educational institutions on movements of strangers, students’ activities and to know whether they are meeting any suspects.
