Construction of the flyover under the Inner Ring Road (IRR) project at Ramavarapadu is on a war footing as the officials are gearing up for completing the works by January end.

Works on one arm of the flyover at Gunadala which will connect to the IRR has already been completed while another arm landing at the Subham function hall near Ramavarappadu circle is going on at a brisk pace.

When contacted, CRDA Chief Engineer D. Kasi Visweswara Rao said that plans had been drawn up to complete the project by January end. The contractor has requested the Irrigation Department to stop releasing of water from the Prakasam Barrage into Ryves, Budameru and Eluru canals to facilitate construction of slabs and the response is awaited.“Once water in canals recedes, we will complete the pending works,” said a senior official from the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).

The officials have planned to complete the pending works at the earliest as workers will be going to their native places in the second week of January in view of the Sankranti festival. The total cost of the IRR, including that of flyover is estimated at Rs. 119 crore, official said.

After much delay since the collapse of four girders of the under-construction flyover in December 2013, work resumed in March this year after committees constituted to probe the incident completed the enquiry and submitted a report.

Following the initiative taken up by the Krishna administration, the contractor, RSV Constructions Private Limited, began the work, according to officials. They explained that vehicles proceeding towards Visakhapatnam and Kolkata from Hyderabad could be diverted through the IRR without entering the city, at Gollapudi ‘Y’ junction. This will ease congestion on the main stretches at Kummaripalem, Krishna Lanka and Benz Circle where traffic moves at a snail’s pace during the peak hours.
