283 out of 405 candidates appear before selection committees on the first day

Personal interviews for recruitment of Ward Volunteers has begun in the city on Thursday. As many as 283 candidates including men and women appeared before the three-member committees.

The 59 wards in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits require a total of 5,648 volunteers and only 5,250 candidates have applied before Wednesday when the registrations closed. The civic body has appointed 15 selection committees headed by officers. The committees are supposed to interview candidates, verify certificates and allot marks to the candidates based on their performance in the interview.

On the first day, in response to SMS given by the Directorate of Municipal Administration, only 283 candidates of the total 405 attended the interview conducted by respective selection committees. The rest 122 did not turn up.

Results after July 25

“Members of the selection committee would individually give marks to the candidate and the same have been submitted to us. The marks will be uploaded to the software for verification by higher authorities,” said Project Officer, Urban Community Development, N. Prakasa Rao, explaining the selection process. He said selection will be done based on the marks a candidate scores, rule of reservation, and reservation for women, and final results will be announced after July 25 as per the schedule. Municipal Commissioner V. Prasanna Venkatesh who inspected the selection committee offices in the city asked officials to make proper arrangements for the candidates. He asked officials to set up help desk at every office to clear candidates’doubts. Interviews will go on till July 25.
