The permanent campus of Indian Institute of Technology - Tirupati (IIT-T) at Merlapaka village on Yerpedu – Venkatagiri highway will be ready by 2020.
While the hostel facility for 600 students, laboratories and sports facilities will be developed at the transit campus on a priority basis by next year, the classrooms for accommodating 1200 students will be ready in the transit campus by the year 2020. By 2024, full scale development will be ensured to make the campus ready for 2500 students. “The union cabinet has approved Rs.1070 crore to IIT Tirupati for three financial years 2017-2020”, IIT Director K.N. Satyanarayana told The Hindu. As the master plan is in place and an architect appointed to take up the task, the ball will be set rolling at the earliest. Sustainable technologies will be employed in the development of the permanent campus and it will be a role model, he added.
Prof. Satyanarayana, along with MCT Commissioner Ch. Hari Kiran, flagged off the 'Run for Unity' at Ramanuja Circle here on Sunday early morning, as part of the week-long 'Rashtriya Ekta Divas' observed across the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. A number of students, faculty members and sports enthusiasts joined the 5 km-long rally that culminated at the IIT temporary campus in Chadalawada Nagar. Essay writing and digital poster competitions were also conducted for the students during the week.
