Hudhud did not impact the coastline in Krishna district, including the Machilipatnam coast, one of the most vulnerable areas in the south. Tension among people was palpable until Hudhud made its landfall, as they had experienced the very severe cyclone Phailin in 2013.
Except a shower before the landfall of Hudhud close to the Visakhapatnam coast around 11.30 a.m., no rainfall was recorded in Machilipatnam on Sunday. There were no winds, but weather remained cloudy along the coast between Nagayalanka and Kruthivennu mandals. Officials who were deployed in the strategic seven mandals to monitor evacuation operations were waiting to swing into action.
“There is no report of human loss or damage. All the boats anchored near the Gilakaladindi habour are safe, as fisherfolk suspended fishing activity,” Hudhud Monitoring Officer A. Varaprasada Rao said. According to officials, the weather condition remained calm, without any winds or rainfall along the nearly 100-km coast in Krishna district.
