Residents living on the hill slopes in the city may end up having house pattas, as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday directed civic officials to conduct a comprehensive survey into the issue.

The Chief Minister held a meeting with officials of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) and Mayor Koneru Sridhar at his Camp Office here. He directed the VMC officials to conduct a detailed survey on the number of houses constructed on the hill slopes in various parts of the city. Based on the report, a final decision on issuing pattas to house owners would be taken, said Mr. Sridhar.

More than 1.5 lakh people reside on the hill slopes in the city and it had been their long pending demand for house pattas.

Focus on greenery

The Chief Minister instructed the officials to improve civic infrastructure and focus on ensuring more greenery in the city. He wanted officials to start work on the drinking water pipelines and other amenities in the Central and East Assembly constituencies and Rs.114 crore was sanctioned for taking up the works.

He also spoke about setting up a 2,000 metric tonne waste-to-energy plant covering Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri. The modalities and benefits also figured in the meeting.

Given the poor drainage and storm water network in the city, the Chief Minister asked officials to initiate measures for avoid water stagnation and logging on the roads.

After holding a couple of meetings with various departments, Mr. Naidu flew to Renigunta in a special plane at around 10.15 a.m. from Gannavaram airport.

Awareness rally

Mr. Naidu will flag off an awareness tour on bamboo cultivation organised by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) from A Convention Centre here on June 21. Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Nani said special buses would be arranged for the tour.

As part of the tour, farmers will visit Hyderabad, Raichur, Bangalore, Hoskote, Sarjapur, Hosur, Salem, Udayagiri and Tirupati. More than 1,000 varieties of products are made from the bamboo.
