Helmet rule to come into force from Nov. 1

Transport Commissioner N. Balasubramanyam on Wednesday said helmet rule would be strictly implemented for two-wheeler riders across the State from November 1.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Balasubramanyam said people must voluntarily follow traffic rules to bring order on roads.

He said first-time offenders would be charged a fine of Rs. 100 while those found repeating the offence would be prosecuted and their vehicle licence be cancelled.

The Transport Commissioner said the department would soon extend online services to enable people to apply for licence, permits and registrations at eSeva and MeeSeva offices.

He said people must not rely on the middlemen and the new mode was being introduced mainly to curb the role of middlemen. He also warned autorickshaw drivers against overloading of vehicles.

Deputy Transport Commissioner V. Sundar and other officials were present on the occasion.
