BJP State president K. Haribabu has promised that the party, if voted to power, would create a revenue district for every Lok Sabha constituency in Seemandhra for administrative convenience as the residuary State was so unwieldy that the district Collectors and political leaders had to take a lot of pain just to travel to distant places.

Addressing the party’s election campaign meeting here on Friday, Mr. Haribabu said there were many States in the country having more number of revenue districts than the LS constituencies and it was prudent that Andhra Pradesh should have smaller districts to ensure a decentralised administration which makes things easy for everyone.

“Seemandhra region comprising 13 districts have 25 LS segments which is far higher than the norm. It is essential to divide the existing districts in such a manner that constituency headquarters has a revenue district functioning,” he observed.

Saying that irrigation was on top of the party’s agenda, Mr. Haribabu said steps would be taken up for speedy execution of the Polavaram and Pulichintala projects on which the survival of crops in nearly 25 lakh acres in Godavari and Krishna deltas was dependent. Completion of those projects would help in commencing water supply to both the deltas by June 1 every year, he said. He also promised that National Waterway No. 4 connecting the rivers, their tributaries and canals between Kakinada and Puducherry would be developed at a cost of Rs. 1,500 crore.

Gannavaram airport

The BJP leader also said a new terminal building would be constructed at Gannavaram airport and its runway would be expanded with new infrastructure for realising its full potential. “In its present shape, the airport looks like a tin-shed which is not better than any RTC bus station,” he observed. Nearly 10 seaports, including the long-delayed Machilipatnam port, would be developed into hubs for maritime trade over a period of five to ten years.

For these and other important projects to take off, people of Vijayawada and Machilipatnam LS constituencies should elect BJP candidates and at national level Narendra Modi has to be chosen as the Prime Minister, Mr. Haribabu exhorted the electorate.
