May 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The State government is mulling constructing a Haj House for the benefit of Haj pilgrims, at Bhavanipuram, according to Minority Welfare Commissioner and Special Officer of Wakf Board Shaik Mohammed Iqbal.

At a media conference on Thursday, he said that extent of land, architecture and estimates for the new building will be prepared by the Collector and the Bhavanipuram lorry stand will be shifted to Ibrahimpatnam. A musafir khana at One Town here would be developed as shadikhana and a commercial complex would also be built at the cost of Rs. 6 crore, he said. The government was contemplating leasing out the lands to pave the way for commercial complexes and etc. The revenue thus generated would be used for the welfare of Muslims, he said.

The Board has more than 67,000 acres across the State. However, major chunk of the properties were either encroached or sold out. The government was gathering the property details and necessary action would be initiated against the encroachers and Muthavalis (Religious trustees who take care of properties) etc who illegally sold out the properties, he said.
