Krishna District Collector A.Md. Imtiaz urged the people of Musunuru mandal to use water in a judicious manner during his visit to the mandal on Monday.

Musunuru mandal, which was selected under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan by the Central government, had suffered from alarmingly low levels of groundwater. The Central government had elected a nodal authority to spearhead the task of reviving the water levels in the mandal.

Nodal Officer Srinivasa Rao said that the first phase of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan was a success in the mandal. Both the Nodal officer and the Collector visited Surepalli village in the mandal and inspected the renovated borewell. Mr. Imtiaz said that the groundwater level has increased from 23 metres deep to 15 metres. Three more borewells would be dug up in the mandal under the second phase.

Later, they inspected a lake which was the major source of drinking water at Gollapudi village in the mandal. Mr. Rao said that out of 75 acres of the lake, only 15 acres was filled with water and said that action would be taken against those who encroached the lake.

Nuvid MLA Meka Venkata Pratap Apparao, Joint Collector-2 Mohan Kumar, Sub Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar and District Water Management Agency Project Director, G.V. Suryanarayana participated.
