Govt. urged to save Gosala

Sri Vijayawada Gou Samrakshana Sangham has urged the State government to save the gosala at One Town here. The sangham submitted a memorandum to the administrative officer at the Sub Collector’s office here in this regard on Wednesday. It wanted the government to construct another gosala in the nearby place if land acquisition was imminent to set up a parking lot for the Durga temple.

Sangham secretary Kamal Nayan Bang and auditor Lingamurthy said the then Madras government had given 28 cents of land to the gosala in 1926. Another 50 cents of land belonging to the Irrigation Department was given to the sangham on a 100-year lease in 1926. The sangham gave away 22 feet land in 2008 as part of the road widening plan. But, the government wanted more land for which the sangham agreed to part with on the condition that 50 cents of land would be given to it elsewhere. It entered an agreement with the government in 2008.

The sangham secretary said the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam authorities were violating the agreement and the Collector had issued orders to hand over 28 cents land to the temple for construction of a parking complex.

Advocate Chinta Umamaheswara Reddy said the gosala housed 1,200 cows and the government’s move to take away gosala land was against the sentiments of the public.
