Govt. insists it is just Rs. 10 crore

Following criticism that substantial budget allocations are being made for the capital foundation ceremony, the State government on Thursday said only Rs.10 crore was being spent for the ceremony.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana said the government had allocated Rs. 7 crore to the Guntur Collector’s office and about Rs. 2 crore to the Krishna Collector’s office to make arrangements for the ceremony.

“All the international delegates and VVIPs were making travel arrangements, including helicopters and chartered flights on their own. The government was constructing helipads at different locations to make things convenient for such guests,” he said.

“The invitation card presented to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu costs about Rs. 70, while other cards cost Rs. 17 each. We are spending very judiciously and stressing on minimising the expenditure,” said Mr. Narayana while addressing media persons here on Thursday.
