‘Govt. engineering varsities second to none’

Students should choose wisely: JNTU-A Vice-Chancellor

State universities are in no way inferior to deemed to be universities and hence students should prefer seeking admission in them, said S. Srinivasa Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Ananthapuram (JNTU-A). Prof. Kumar made specific reference to the alluring offers made by deemed to be universities and cautioned the prospective engineering students not to fall for the attractive packages.

Addressing students at the awareness meeting on ‘Prospects of engineering courses’ organised by the Andhra Pradesh Private Engineering College Managements Association (APPECMA) at SV University auditorium here on Wednesday, Prof. Kumar maintained that the State universities have the best physical infrastructure, state-of-the-art laboratories and well-furnished libraries and faculty members. “The general order of priority is IITs, NITs, Central universities, State universities and finally the deemed universities. Why prefer the last one, when you have several others at the top?” was his poser.

Distinguished alumni

“From DRDO Chief Satish Reddy to ace singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, JNTU-A has produced a number of gems,” he said, highlighting the unique features of its courses and degrees. The affiliated colleges are treated on a par with the university’s constituent colleges and hence students need not have any doubts while joining them.

“It is the university that conducts the exam and awards the certificate and hence you don’t have to worry if it is a constituent college or an affiliated college,” he said.

APPECMA conducted the event across the state under the banner of JNTU-A (for Rayalaseema, Nellore) and JNTU-K (for coastal districts) to clear the air among students and parents, in view of the changing preferences in terms of courses and institutes. APPECMA Vice-Chairman N. Gangi Reddy and general secretary N. Vijayabhaskar Chowdary urged the students to take a bold step towards new vistas opening up in employment and higher educational avenues. Event convener Y. Ananda Reddy called engineering ‘the forte of disciplined students.’

SV University Vice-Chancellor G. Janakiramaiah, JNTUA professor K. Hemachandra Reddy, Flt Lt P.C. Pradhan of Saksham Training and Facility Management and Abhijeet Ballurkar of Targetorate Consultancy gave a rosy picture of engineering career.
