‘Government committed to ensuring welfare of weaker sections’

District Collector launches YSR Pension Kanuka at Anjuman-A-Islamia municipal school

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is giving the top priority to the welfare of elderly, differently-abled and those ailing with different diseases, said District Collector I. Samuel Anand Kumar.

Addressing a public meeting after distributing pensions under ‘YSR Pension Kanuka’ at Anjuman-A-Islamia municipal school at Ponnur Road on Monday marking the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy, the Collector said that the State Government has enhanced the monthly pension from ₹2,000 to ₹2,250 which would be later enhanced to ₹3,000.

The differently-abled persons would also be given a monthly pension of ₹3,000 and those ailing with kidney related ailments would be given ₹10,000 as monthly pensions. Besides, the age limit for old age pension has already reduced to 60 years from 65 years.

In the district, 4,88,954 beneficiaries of various schemes are availing themselves of ₹113.27 crore. There are 21,236 old age pensioners who are being paid ₹47.78 crore, 8,789 handloom pensioners who are being given ₹1.98 crore, 1.85 lakh widow pensioners who are being given ₹41.81 crore, 49,533 differently-abled persons who are being paid ₹14.86 crore, 2,068 toddy tapers who are being paid ₹47 lakh, 374 dialysis patients who are being paid ₹37 lakh, 17,944 single women who are being paid ₹4.04 crore.

Guntur East MLA Md. Mustafa said that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accorded the highest priority to welfare of weaker sections.

Municipal Commissioner Shrikesh B. Lathkar said that 37,270 persons are availing themselves of pensions worth ₹9.20 crore.
