New Delhi-based Gandhi Global Family (GGF) will organise Vandey Gandheeyam and Yuvajanotsavam on October 2, the birth anniversary of Gandhiji.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, GGF vice president S. P. Verma said that Vandey Gandheeyam and Yuvajanotsav are being organised to revitalise Gandhism and spread his ideology among the youth. The message of peace would be taken to the entire world from Vijayawada at Vandey Gandheeyam programme. Gandhians across the globe would take part in the deliberations and programmes organised to celebrate the birth anniversary of father of nation, he said.

Every Indian is a successor of Gandhiji, and his philosophy is a part of the heritage of the nation. Every citizen needs to practice and preach his ideology for a better society and peace, he said, adding, the whole world was looking towards Gandhian ideology as a solution to violence and terrorism. Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy who is the chairman of the organising committee, said that the Vandey Gandheeyam was apolitical. The people from all walks of life, cutting across political affiliations were being invited. Shortly, a committee would be constituted to look into these aspects. The GGF president Gulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana and others would address the gathering, he said.

Elocution competitions would be conducted in three categories—8th to 10th class, intermediate and undergraduate and postgraduate—at each constituency as part of the celebrations. The winners at district level would be given a chance to speak at the function, he said. MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah, GGF advisor Abdul Rasheed Shaheen, state president S. Rajender Reddy, industrialist Gokaraju Gangaraju, programme coordinator Samanthapudi Narasaraju were present.
