Gearing up to face cyclone threat

APSPDCL has set up control rooms at its circle office and all division offices

In the wake of cyclone Lehar, the Southern Power Distribution Company has set up control rooms at its circle office and all division offices and has deputed sub-engineers as duty operators. The office has released a list of phone numbers (both cell numbers and land line numbers).

These officials will monitor the status of power supply position in Krishna district. The following is the list of phone numbers:

For Circle Office, Vijayawada Town, Gunadala and Vijayawada Rural: 0866-2575620 (Land line) and 9440817561 (mobile number).

Nuzvid—08656—232746 and 9490615606, Gudivada—08674-242703 and 9440817573, Machilipatnam—08672-222294 and 9440812104 and Vuyyuru—08676-233718 and 9491054708 respectively.

Meanwhile, Krishna district Collector M. Raghunandan Rao, has asked officials in coastal mandals to remain on high alert and take adequate measures to minimise loss of lives and property.

Addressing a video conference with tahsildars and mandal development officers of the coastal regions in his camp office, Mr. Rao clarified that officials deployed on cyclone duties must keep themselves available at all times.

He said metrological department personnel had issued warning that Cyclone Lehar was expected to cross the coast near Machilipatnam around November 28 or 29. Cyclone Lehar was likely to be more severe than Cyclone Helen, he said.

The Collected wanted the officials to be equipped to counter the calamity in the best possible way. He said as precautionary measures, vehicles must be kept ready to evacuate people in the event of submersion of residential areas.

He said officials must learn from the shortfalls at the time of Helen Cyclone and avoid repeating the same mistakes.

District Revenue Officer L. Vijaychander and tahsildars and mandal development officials of coastal mandals of Kruthivenu, Bantumilli, Koduru, Nagayalanka, Avanigadda, Mopidevi and Machilipatnam participated in the meeting.
