Criminals and habitual offenders and robber gangs from Tamil Nadu are carrying out their operations without any hindrance despite police vigil in Vijayawada. The police stumbled upon two inter-State robber gangs in the last 15 days and detected two major cases including the Rs.19 lakh snatching case.

The police did not have pucca information about how many days the gangs were operating in the city and how many offences the accused would have committed.

Unidentified persons, wearing helmets, snatched a bag containing Rs.19 lakh from one Mr. Rajamannar, at a private bank near Maris Stella College, and escaped on a two-wheeler in March.

Siblings caught

Police picked up – P. Jeevan kumar and P. Kishore Kumar – siblings from Tiruvallu of Tamil Nadu in that case and recovered Rs.18 lakh, a bike and a car from their possession. The accused committed similar offences in East Godavari in A.P., Gujarat and Rajasthan.

In another case, the Patamata police on Sunday rounded up a 11-member gang involved in several thefts in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The accused camped on the city outskirts and stole laptops and cell phones in several areas in the city in just a few days.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) M. Ravi Prakash said that the police was planning to increase its strength in the police stations. “We will pass on information to the neighbouring districts on the arrest of the Tamil Nadu gang and alert them. Instructions were given to all ACPs and SHOs to take steps to prevent the entry of criminals into the city,” said the DCP.
