Director General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao on Wednesday said the Central government had sanctioned ₹245 crore for the setting up of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Amaravati.
Addressing the police officials and Health Minister K. Srinivas here, Mr. Sambasiva Rao said a request had been made to the State government to spare five acres in Amaravati instead of three acres which was earlier allotted for the FSL project.
The Central government has sanctioned the project under the Modernisation of Police Forces programme. “Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has been briefed about the FSL project and the requirement of funds and necessary assistance from the Central goverment for setting up of the FSL in the capital city of Amaravati,” he added.
Cyber labs
Stating that cyber crime was on the rise in Andhra Pradesh, the DGP announced that cyber labs would be established in all the district headquarters.
“The Central Investigation Department of the State police has been entrusted with the task of investigating the modus operandi in various cycber crimes in order to minimise the rate of the cyber crime,” he said and added that special teams of police personnel and lower cadre officials had been trained to deal with the cyber crime cases.
The DGP said tenders were invited for setting up at least 40 model stations in the State, each costing above ₹1crore. As many as 10 model police stations are in operation in the State.
Accompanied by Mr. Srinivas, Eluru Member of Parliament M. Babu and Krishna District Superintendent of Police Sarvasresth Tripathy, Mr. Sambasiva Rao inspected the land for model police stations at Gudiwada and Kaikaluru towns in Krishna district.
Mr. Babu on Wednesday pledged ₹25 lakh fund and the aqua farmers of Kaikaluru promised to donate ₹25 lakh for the development of the model police station at Kaikaluru.
