Entertainment seekers and foodies in the city will have a new and unique place to hang out with family and friends during this summer.

The riverfront food court and entertainment zone jointly developed by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and Jaan Entertainments Ltd on the Padmavathi Ghat, opposite Pandit Nehru Bus Station, is going to be opened on March 16.

The project began in the first week of May last after the civic body and the private firm signed an agreement as a result of a tendering process.

Though it is supposed to be completed much earlier due to various reasons it took longer and most of the partnering food businesses already had a soft launch of their units.

The food court has a glass house on its top enabling visitors to eat while enjoying the view of the Krishna river downstream Prakasam Barrage and the railway bridge across it.

“Most of the works and arrangements are done and the soft launch is scheduled for March 16. People can walk-in for free and hang out at the food zone and ghat area where a range of fun rides are available,” Jaan Entertainments CEO and founder K. Jayanarayana told The Hindu. “The food zone has 22 stalls offering various types of food and the play area offers free and paid rides including boating. For security reasons, after the full-fledged launch a month later we will be issuing free access cards to the visitors,” he said. Also, cultural programmes in the entertainment zone will be organised during weekends.

The project is worth ₹6 crore and VMC gets an income of ₹24.50 lakh every year.
