Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) of Maharashtra and former CBI Joint Director V.V. Lakshminarayana on Saturday advised students not to watch movies and waste their valuable time.
“Many students are showing interest in watching movies and following the film personalities. They can prefer films for entertainment. But some youth are fully focussing on movies and ignoring many important issues,” he said.
Mr. Lakshminarayana, who participated in the Jatiya Swadeshi Suraksha Udyamam organised by the Swadesi Jagaran Manch, along with other Swadesi Jagaran leaders here on Saturday, explained about former President and missile man A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Swamy Vivekananda, engineer Mokshagundam Visweswaraiah, Chatrapati Sivaji, M.S. Swaminathan and Kargil war hero Yogendra Singh Yadav and exhorted students to know about the great personalities who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
“Mr. Yogendra Singh Yadav, who took part in Kargil war, completed his task and returned with 19 bullet injuries. But very few people knew about the grenadier. I request the students to focus on real heroes, but not on reel heroes,” he said.
Asking the students to be role models, he asked the children to train their body, mind, word and the thought process in a proper way and help in the development of the country.
“You have to fulfil the dreams of your parents and teachers. Come up with innovative ideas, put them on paper, plan accordingly to ground your ideas and build the nation with your excellence,” the former CBI Joint Director urged the youngsters. Swadesi Jagaran Manch (SJM) national co-convener R. Sundaram, Andhra Pradesh convener P. Janardhan, Pranta Prachara Pramukh convener Rama Raju, Telangana SJM president Lakshmana Chary, SJM Sangarshana Vahini Pramukh Annada Shankar Panigrahi, AP State co-convener V. Narasimha Raju and leader Bharat and others participated in the programme.

Earlier, the students participated in ‘Swadesi run’ in the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium. The Swadesi Jagaran Munch leaders asked the students not to prefer the products of other countries and try to develop and use our own products and goods.
Later, the students performed cultural shows and the organisers distributed prizes to the winners in essay-writing and elocution competitions.
