Scores of devotees attended the ‘gramotsavam' of Sri Parvathi Ramalingeswara Swamy at Yanamalakuduru village, on the city outskirts on Tuesday.

The temple management took the idols of Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy and his consort Parvathi Devi, in a procession. The Endowments officials performed the celestial wedding of the deity in connection with ‘Maha Sivaratri' festival on Munigiri Hill.

Amid the chants of ‘Om Namashivaya', Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy and Parvathi Devi were taken on a chariot in the streets and the devotees had ‘darshan' of the deities. Temple Executive Officer Dulipalla Subrahmanyam said that the devastanam management which was celebrating ‘kalyanotsavams' performed ‘gramotsavam' on a grand scale and thousands of devotees had a glimpse of the new couple and took their blessings.

‘Baliharana'

The priests also performed ‘baliharana' on Tuesday.

“Likewise, the priests perform ‘baliharana' by mixing lime with turmeric (which will give red colour) to prevent the entry of ‘dusta sakthis'(bad omen) near the temple during the celebrations.

‘Jagarana'

As part of ‘Maha Sivaratri jagarana', the devotees observed ‘jagarana' on Monday night, and the donors arranged cultural programmes on the occasion.

The ‘prabas' decorated colourfully with the pictures of Lord Shiva, ‘Nandi' and ‘damarukams' were paraded in the streets throughout the night and were taken to the temple on Tuesday.

The temple management will perform ‘Dwajarohana' and ‘pavalimpu seva' on the last day of the ‘utsavams' on Wednesday, said the EO.
