The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation teachers befit felicitations as they brought an identity and image to the VMC schools on par with the corporate and private schools in the city, said Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu.

Felicitating VMC teachers on the Teacher's Day at the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram on Monday, Mr. Vishnu said that teachers were bringing out the hidden talent of students. The students of corporation-run schools excelled due to the diligence and efforts of teachers, he said.

More than 28,000 students in these schools were being provided necessary facilities and infrastructure. There was a need for assistance from the State government to fill the gaps, the MLA said, adding, “I shall take up the matter with the government if the corporation prepared a comprehensive report on the requirements.”

Additional Commissioner P. Venkata Ramana said that the corporation was laying emphasis on education and took many new initiatives to streamline working of schools. ‘Badi nirmiddam' and e-learning were some to mention. Recently, the VMC started social services wing in every school to inculcate moral values, ethics and service attitude among the children.

A period was earmarked to teach moral values to students every day. The PETs were asked to train students in sports and games of their choice and prepare them for upcoming tournaments and competitions, he added.

The VMC, in all, felicitated 129 teachers, including 16 retired teachers. MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah, Deputy Inspector Srinivasa Rao and others were present.

Moral values

At another function organised at Edpugallu, Teachers' MLC K.S. Lakshman Rao said that the onus lies on teachers in inculcating moral values and churning out good citizens.
