Emulate Visvesvaraya, engineering students told

The 44th Engineers Day was celebrated at various engineering colleges in city and surrounding areas on Thursday to mark the birthday celebrations of eminent engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Lectures by outstanding scientists and researchers were the highlights of the day's events on the campuses.

The celebrations were held at the VR Siddhartha Engineering College, PVP Siddhartha Institute of Technology, Andhra Loyola Institute of Engineering and Technology, KL University, ITI College and so on. The speakers asked the present day young generation of career makers in engineering area to emulate the example of great engineers like Sir Visvesvaraya.

They said that Sir Visvesvaraya's contributions were immense in the varied fields of engineering.

Contests, exhibitions

At the VRSEC, a meeting was held when Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education president S.V. Vishnuvardhana Rao, secretary N. Venkateswarlu and others asked the youngsters to get inspired by the eminent engineers of the past and excel in all fields of modern technologies. Paper contests, technical model exhibitions and poster exhibitions were held on the occasion involving all the departments.

College principal K. Mohana Rao and Siddhartha Academy treasurer P. Lakshmana Rao, college convener M. Rajaiah described Sir Visvesvaraya as a committed and honest civil engineer who contributed greatly to the development of irrigation dams, canal systems and steel plants all over the country in those days. Nuclear Power Board former director Myneni Hari Prasada Rao delivered a guest lecture on construction and maintenance of nuclear reactors on the occasion. The ALIET felicitated AP Transco executive engineer B. Ramaiah, who advised the B.Tech students to gather sufficient knowledge of basic concepts for their future development. College director J. Thainese, Principal Durga Prasad Ojha and others spoke. An exhibition was conducted in which students of 3rd year EEE presented 30 projects.
