As many as eight inmates of Care and Share NGO Daddy’s Home at Budhavaram in Krishna district who ran away from the hostel on Monday were rescued by the home staff within a few hours.

On noticing the children at the bus station, someone alerted the home staff, who shifted them to the home. According to the home staff, the children, all studying in first and second standards, left the hostel in the afternoon, the reason for which was not known immediately.

“The children belonged to two rag-picking families of Gudivada, and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) had referred them to the home a month ago,” said Prasad, one of the directors of the home.

District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Ch. Vijay Kumar said five girls and three boys, aged between six and eight years, had gone out of the home. An inquiry will be ordered into the poor security at the home.

“It is learnt that the children had left the hostel when the staff members were attending a birthday party. They were all admitted to the home recently,” the DCPO said.
