CPI today criticised the Election Commission for failing to prevent the misuse of government machinery at Kadapa, where a by-election is going to be held.

CPI state secretary, Dr K Narayana told reporters here that the bypolls at Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency and Pulivenduala Assembly constituency had become a prestige issue for the ruling Congress in the State, which was desperate to defeat Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

With the entire cabinet involved in campaign, the official machinery was being misused, he said.

Saying that EC was not taking action, he demanded that it reveal the facts on the money and gold seized from workers of political parties in Kadapa district.

He also said that followers of Mr. Jagan were behaving in undemocratic manner.
