Responding to the controversy that broke out over the alleged large-scale deletion of voters and theft of related data in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Gopal Krishna Dwivedi said it was up to the courts and police to ascertain the facts and take appropriate action against the culprits.

He asserted that only the electoral rolls which do not contain photos were the official document released to people by the Election Commission. It has nothing to do with the lists of voters belonging to Andhra Pradesh that surfaced in Hyderabad.

Speaking to mediapersons, who met him at the Secretariat on Monday, Mr. Dwivedi said the addresses of persons who submitted bulk applications for deletion of voters were being traced while the police started their own investigation and stated that no deletion took place after January 11.

People could check the electoral rolls published on that date. The number of voters at the time of publication of the final rolls in January was 3.69 crore and five lakh new voters were added by the end of February.
