Foodies in city have a good news. To satisfy their late night cravings, the State government has given its nod for extended the last closing time for eateries until midnight.
The Labour Department issued orders to this effect, a move seen as a shot in the arm for the Tourism Department, which has initiated a number of measures to promote tourism across the State. Currently, eateries have to close shop by 10.30 p.m. The new timings, however, do not extend to bars.
Following a request by members of the Andhra Pradesh Hotels’ Association, Secretary of the Department of Language, Culture and Tourism Mukesh Kumar Meena presented their case to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who responded positively. Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Himanshu Shukla said with extended work hours, business would flourish, contributing indirectly to the State exchequer. This would also increase income of workers, he added.
The move is also seen by many as gradual focus on the city’s nightlife, which remains dull.
Hailing the decision, restaurant owners have called it ‘a right move’ that would help not just them but many allied sectors.
