Next time when you visit a doctor, request for a blood pressure check up. Apart from cardiac related problems, hypertension can also lead to neurological problems and brain strokes. Since there is no cure for hypertension, regular health check ups for early detection can help in a big way in controlling such health issues, doctors informed.
In Vijayawada, everyday 15 to 20 cases of brain strokes are reported in different hospitals and in most cases, attendants explain that patients suffer paralytic strokes as well. More importantly, these strokes are reported in people aged between 40 to 50 years and this is not a good sign, said Dr. Naveen Kumar Venigalla, Chief Consultant Neurologist at Kamineni Hospitals here on Sunday.
There are many factors like changing lifestyles, sedentary lifestyle, improper diet, intake of more salt, consumption of alcohol and smoking, for rise in hyper tension among people.
There are two types of strokes — ischemic stroke and haemorrhagic stroke, he explained media persons on the occasion of the World Hypertension Day.
The biggest challenge is there are no symptoms for detecting hypertension among people and when the blood pressure increases beyond permissible levels, patients gets strokes, including paralytic and at times they also collapse. When patients suffer brain strokes, attendants should take them to hospital within three hours as doctors give one injection to avoid blood clotting, he informed.
Dr. G. Mahesh, Chief Cardiologist, and others also spoke on the occasion.
